BSNL Procedure for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) facility in detail

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) was launched across India on 20th January 2011 and implemented by all the telecom network operators which gives more and more convenience to GSM/CDMA customers.
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a facility, which enables mobile users to retain their existing Mobile Number when changing from one mobile network operator to Government owned company BSNL with out any additional charges, where the user not worried about the change of mobile number.     At first, the customer have to Obtain Unique Porting Code (UPC) by sending an SMS to 1900 in the format ‘Port Space 10 digit mobile number” (Ex:- PORT XXXXXXXXXX) by sending to 1900 in case of J&K pre-paid mobile subscriber to get UPC - call 1900 instead of sending SMS.
    UPC allocated to a subscriber shall be valid for a period of fifteen days from the date of request or such time till the number is ported out, whichever is earlier, for all service areas except Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North East licensed areas the validity for the UPC shall be for a period of thirty days from the date of request or till such time the number is ported out, whichever is earlier, irrespective of. number of requests the subscriber makes.
    After getting of MNP code you have to visit the BSNL CSC (Customer Service Center) / Authorized franchisee / retailer to request for porting of your mobile number. Fill in a CAF (Customer Application Form) with relevant plan and service(2G/3G) and pay the porting fees for processing. (Presently BSNL is not charging any fees for porting into BSNL, Port-in charges will be waived off and actual SIM price will be charged), you will be issued a new BSNL empty SIM card.
    Upon approval of porting request, whole Porting process will takes a maximum of 7 days for activation..
    You are required to change your SIM card in your handset when the old operator got disconnected the number. Once ported the minimum time to stay in that network is 90 days.
