revision of Mobile TV - Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) from 09-03-2015

BSNL offers these Mobile Television services in association with different content providers viz, M/s P.K.Online, M/s Apalya Technologies Pvt. Ltd, M/s Exnxt Software Pvt. Ltd, & M/s Digivive Services Pvt. Ltd. etc.
As per the latest revision, BSNL reduced the validity and bundled free data usage with certain mobile TV data STVs. Mobile TV pack of Rs 82 & Rs 103 will now offer 450 MB data usage instead of 500 MB data with revised validity of 12 days instead of 15 days.

BSNL is in discussions with multiple Cable TV operators to offer Broadband services

BSNL’s Chairman and Managing Director Shri.Anupam Shrivastava told - “We are in talks with various cable operators to use their access to each and every household. It will be a profit sharing arrangement.”

Shrivastava also said - "BSNL has already tested such a model in few locations and is now seeking to expand the service across the country in the next financial year i.e., in 2015-16."

Govt approves 5,000 call interception requests a month, says minister

NEW DELHI: Communications and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on told the Lok Sabha that the ministry on an average approves 5,000 call interception requests a month based on "justified grounds" made by various law enforcement agencies.

Telcos' debt at Rs 2.4 lakh cr at end of FY14

Telecom service providers in India had a total debt of Rs 2,42,896 crore on their books in 2013-14, communications and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

The share of public-sector firms Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) stood at Rs 18,579 crore or 7.6 per cent of the total debt, Prasad said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

BSNL Revises Annual 3G Data Plans with Fixed Monthly Data Usage

BSNL has revised its prepaid annual 3G data plans to offer data usage on fixed monthly basis. Earlier users activating annual data plans would get full data instantly with validity of one year. Now subscribers will only get a fixed monthly benefit added to their account every month for a period of 12 months.

BSNL Bid to Limit Monthly Data Use Invites Customer Ire

KOCHI:The decision by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to change the rules for annual pre-paid data package by imposing monthly limit from this month is drawing flak from customers.  In a message sent to customers, the public sector firm said, “the bundled free data will be credited on a monthly basis, instead of the earlier ‘12-month consolidated’ basis. Every month, free usage will be credited and the previous month’s balance will be cleared. Additional data can be availed using Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs). If the data-plan voucher is again used before the plan expiry, the benefits will be given afresh.”

Budget sees Rs 42,866 crores revenue from telecom sector in 2016

The government expects revenue of 428.66 billion rupees ($6.95 billion) from the telecoms sector, including from auctions of its airwaves, during the next fiscal year to March 2016, the annual budget showed on Saturday.
The government has yet to give details on the spectrum auctions to be held during the next fiscal year. The estimates include revenue from the annual fees telecoms carriers pay to the government.

Landline STD calls to cost 30% less

Long-distance calls might get cheaper by 30 per cent said Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, after the telecom regulator reduced carriage charges.

“We are working on it and will pass on the benefits to our users. The STD tariffs, if you call from landline, should come down by about 30 per cent. The new tariffs will be announced with effect from April 1,” BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava told Business Standard.

The Dharwad Telecom District Committee of Karnataka State BSNL Non Permanent Workers Union staged a protest here on Wednesday seeking benefits that are due for the contract employees.
Staging the protest in front of the office of the General Manager of Dharwad Telecom Circle near Dr. Ambedkar Circle here, the protesters said that they were forced to face hardships and their rightful demands were not being considered.

AGRA: The e-ticketing facility at the Taj Mahal is still not fully operational and BSNL is reportedly to blame. According to reports, the inordinate delay on the part of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in laying down leased internet lines has proved costly for the Archaeological Survey of India, which was supposed to make the facility available at all three gates of the monument by February 28.

BSNL engineer shot dead in Dimapur

A BSNL telecom engineer was shot dead by unidentified assailants at his residence at Nagagaon colony, Signal Basti area Dimapur on Sunday at around 9 p.m.

Family members told this Reporter that the deceased identified as G.M. Rongmei was working as sub-divisional engineer (BSNL) posted at Zunheboto.

Telecom companies BSNL, MTNL and Videocon are considering reducing call rates after telecom regulator TRAI cut down interconnection charges.
“Removal of fixed termination charges will help BSNL serve its customer better. We will come up with better offers in next financial year. Customers will have more affordable services,” BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastav told PTI.

ONGC most profitable CPSE, BSNL biggest loss-making

Oil explorer ONGC was the country's most profitable PSU in 2013-14, while telecom major BSNL was the worst performer, says the Economic Survey. The pre-budget survey for 2014-15 said the net profit of 163 profit-making CPSEs during 2013-14 was Rs 1,49,164 crore, while the net loss of 71 loss-making CPSEs was Rs 20,055 crore.

BSNL to slash 3G internet rates by 50%

Against the trend of rising mobile internet tariff, state-run telecom company BSNL is likely to cut its 3G data rates by at least 50 per cent once the next phase of its network expansion is completed.
“We estimate that 3G data rates can be reduced by at least 50 per cent compared to prevailing rates under phase 8 of our network expansion,” BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastav told PTI in an interview.
