BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) is a state-owned India’s largest
telecom service provider headquartered in Delhi. The company offers
pan-India telecom services except Mumbai and Delhi metropolitan cities.
The company, which is the fifth largest service provider, also offers connectivity to government’s major digital initiatives as well as departments and public sector units spread across the country. The telco has a robust telecom network and infrastructure spread across all nooks and corners of the country. It has a 700,000 kilometres of fibre-based network spread across the country. It had more than 10 million home broadband users as of March 31, 2017.
BSNL offers GSM cellular mobile services under the brand name Cellone and provides solutions such as MPLS, P2P and Internet leased lines to enterprise customers. The telco also has an extensive optical fiber based network, and allows Internet access services through dial-up connection as prepaid and postpaid as NetOne and broadband under DataOne. It also offers IPTV service and Voice and Video Over Internet Protocol (VVoIP), in addition to MPLS-VPN, VSAT, VoIP, IN services and FTTH.
The government-driven telco has set up a multi-gigabit, multi-protocol convergent IP infrastructure that offers convergent services like voice, data and video through the same backbone and broadband access network.
The company, as a social commitment, encourages development of telecom services in remote, hilly and tribal areas of the country. BSNL has a workforce of close to 200,000 employees as of 2017-18.
