Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur has expressed his concern over the increasing theft of BSNL cables and other telephone equipments in several parts of the state. He has written a letter to chief minister Virbhadra Singh, demanding necessary instructions to the police so that the theft cases could be curbed and peoples' confidence in administration can be restored.
Thakur, in a statement on Monday, alleged that law and order situation had deteriorated much in the state and the authorities were sleeping over the situation.
He said that in last few days thefts of BSNL cables had increased manifold. In last two years, in Hamirpur parliamentary constituency alone, there have been 600 incidents of cable thefts, in which about 100 km length of cable was stolen resulting in disconnecting about 5,000-6,000 telephone connections.
"When people's complaints are conveyed to BSNL officials, they say that due to increasing cable thefts, the department is unable to provide services. People still have to pay rentals of the telephone despite getting the services," he said.
Anurag also said that the police were till now unable to crack the idol theft case of Raghunath in Kullu, which showed their failure and order situation in the state.
