The arrival of Reliance Jio has undoubtedly shaken up the Indian
telecom sector. The ultra-affordable data-voice combo plans offered by
Jio have led to rival telcos revamping their existing offerings, and
introducing new ones.
The employees' union of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have threatened to go on indefinite strike if their demands are not met. The action taken by these employees has raised certain pertinent questions regarding the role of BSNL in India as of now, and, more importantly the larger role of public sector undertakings in the country.

benefits and more for its users.

Under this new plan users will receive unlimited calling local and STD calling on the same network and 1.5 GB data per day for 30 days.
The government led debt-ridden telecom operator, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL),
which operates in Delhi and Mumbai circles has urged the government to
package a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) so that the Rs 20,000 crore
debts and assets including 1,100 towers, lands and buildings are
deleveraged to correct the financials of the company. MTNL has also
talked to the government about a merger with BSNL so that the telco will
be able to expand operations across India on the basis of network
utilisation.

BSNL has launched its new broadband plan for Rs 299 that offers 45GB data per month with a download speed of 8Mbps along with unlimited STD voice calls to other BSNL numbers within the country. The telecommunication company will also provide its customers with Rs 50 cashback every month for the first 6 months of activation.
Today, the All-Union & Association of BSNL (AUAB) met with the telecom minister, Manoj Sinha
to talk on many points and address the problems that BSNL was facing.
In the talk, the minister and union members spoke about the strike which
was later deferred from the union’s side. Another point of discussion
was the cost of the 4G spectrum which is scheduled to be allotted to the government led telecom operator.
BSNL has launched a new digital payment platform for its landline, broadband, Fiber to home customers that will enable the customer to pay the bills at nearby BSNL retailer outlets.
