New scheme of BSNL providing Wi-Fi modem with full cashback offer till Mar 31

New Delhi, Feb 23 : State-run telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a new scheme for acquiring BSNL Wi-Fi broadband modems at a cost of Rs 1500 wherein customers shall be given Rs 100 per month as cashback for 15 months.

In huge financial relief to state-run telecom companies, the Union Cabinet has approved hiving off BSNL's tower assets into a separate company and offered Rs 627.20 crore as compensation to BSNL and its metro counterpart MTNL for surrendering CDMA spectrum that was auctioned in March this year. The Cabinet on Wednesday gave an 'in-principle' approval to hive off tower assets, a person familiar with the development said.

After a long time, BSNL has shown profitability in FY2014-15. BSNL’s revenue for FY2014-15 increased by 2.4 percent to register Rs 28,654 crore whereas its services revenue increased by 4.2 percent to reach Rs 27,242 crore. On the other hand from an operating loss of Rs 691 crore in FY2013-14, BSNL registered an operating profit of Rs 672 crore in FY2014-15.

Drastic improvement required : Governor to BSNL

Govt to use BSNL muscle to push internet services

The department of telecommunications (DoT) is chalking out a strategy to promote internet services, especially in small towns and areas, through state-run BSNL to bridge the digital divide. This will be in line with government’s vision of Digital India. “Now, we are planning to rope in BSNL for spreading and creating internet awareness. BSNL already offers services, mainly voice, at a subsidised rate in small and remote areas, which will now be extended to internet services,” a senior official from DoT said.

BSNL seeks partnerships with pvt sector

State-run BSNL is seeking partnerships with private sector rivals to generate revenue and return to profitability in a couple of years. To improve earnings and cut losses, BSNL has drawn up a strategy to use its underused network and forge agreements with private telecom players. This will also mean minimal capital expenditure, according to a senior BSNL executive.

BSNL to Set Up 4 More Wifi Hotspots in City by Feb-end

CHENNAI: If things go the way as BSNL officials have planned, the city may get wifi hotspots at four more public places by this month-end and 25 more wifi hotspots by the next month-end.

The public sector telecom service provider has taken up aggressively the work of setting up wifi hotspots at public places to compete with private telecom players.

BSNL will take final call on closure of wimax service at some locations

New Delhi : State-owned telecommunications company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has decided to close down its wimax service in some circles, where there are less customers and sites are faulty.

An official of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited said that, "There are around 1.15 to 1.2 lakh wimax customers on BSNL network across 20 BSNL telecom circles.

BSNL asks customers not to use Paytm

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has warned telephone subscribers against payment of telephone bills through Paytm mobile wallet transaction system.

A press note issued by the Chief General Manager, BSNL, here on Monday said Paytm was not authorised to collect BSNL bill payments. BSNL, it said, would disconnect the services of customers who remit payments through Paytm.
