Govt to use BSNL muscle to push internet services
The department of telecommunications (DoT) is chalking out a strategy to promote internet services, especially in small towns and areas, through state-run BSNL to bridge the digital divide. This will be in line with government’s vision of Digital India. “Now, we are planning to rope in BSNL for spreading and creating internet awareness. BSNL already offers services, mainly voice, at a subsidised rate in small and remote areas, which will now be extended to internet services,” a senior official from DoT said.

State-run BSNL is seeking partnerships with private sector rivals to generate revenue and return to profitability in a couple of years. To improve earnings and cut losses, BSNL has drawn up a strategy to use its underused network and forge agreements with private telecom players. BSNL to Set Up 4 More Wifi Hotspots in City by Feb-end
CHENNAI: If things go the way as BSNL officials have planned, the city may get wifi hotspots at four more public places by this month-end and 25 more wifi hotspots by the next month-end.

BSNL asks customers not to use Paytm
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has warned telephone subscribers against payment of telephone bills through Paytm mobile wallet transaction system.
A press note issued by the Chief General Manager, BSNL, here on Monday said Paytm was not authorised to collect BSNL bill payments. BSNL, it said, would disconnect the services of customers who remit payments through Paytm.
